COCONUT POLI | WHEAT FLOUR POLI | UBBUTTU RECIPE

Sweet puran poli is the traditional sweet that we normally do during festivals, so my tamil new year started with this tasty healthy poli. This is usually done with dal and jaggery filling. I have prepared with coconut filling in wheat flour dough. This tastes the same like maida poli and healthy option too. Do try this at home and wish you all a happy and prosperous tamil new year.

INGREDIENTS :

  • Wheat flour – 2 cups
  • Maida – 2 tsp (optional)
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – pinch
  • Oil – 3 tsp
  • Ghee – 2 tsp

FOR FILLING:

  • Grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Grated jaggery – 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder – 1 tsp

METHOD:

1.In a mixing bowl take wheat flour, maida, salt and turmeric powder. Add water little by little and mix well to form soft dough.

2.Add oil to it and knead for two minutes. Cover the dough and keep aside for half an hour.

3.Heat pan, add jaggery and little water until it immerse. Let the jaggery dissolve, filter to remove impurities and boil again in pan.

4.Add coconut and cardamom powder, stir well in medium flame until it becomes thick and mixed well. This is the filling.

5.Take small ball size dough, place it in banana leaf or any cover greased with oil.

6.Spread the dough into circle with hand, place the filling at centre and bring edges of the circle towards the center and fold over to cover the entire filling.

7.Flatten the stuffed dough using hands. Repeat the process with remaining dough and filling.

8.Heat pan, add rolled poli to  it. Apply little ghee and allow the poli to cook in low flame.

9.Gently flip the poli and cook it until colour changes slightly.

10.The yummy and healthy coconut poli is ready to be served.

NOTE:

  • Wheat flour and maida can be used in equal quantity.
  • Chopped nuts can be added along with coconut for filling.
  • This remains good 3-4 days when preserved well.
