INGREDIENTS:

  • Moong dal – 1/4 cup
  • Onion – 1
  • Garlic – 6 pods
  • Ginger powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Chilli powder – 1/3 tsp
  • Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Coconut oil – 3 tsp
  • Salt – as required
  • Water – 2 cups
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – for garnishing

METHOD:

1. Wash the moong dal. Pressure cook for 2 whistles or boil adding enough water until cooked soft.

2. Once cooked, mash the dal well or puree it with hand blender. Keep aside.

3. Heat a pan with tsp of oil, add finely chopped onion and garlic. Saute until translucent.

 

4. Pour the mashed dal along with 2 cups of water. Add required salt, turmeric powder, ginger powder, pepper powder and chilli powder.

5. Mix well and simmer the flame for 2-3 minutes stirring it without sticking to bottom.

6. Once done, switch off and add lemon juice. Prepare tempering in a pan adding oil and add Cumin seeds. Once it splutters add it to the soup.

7. Mix and garnish with coriander leaves. Transfer into soup bowl, top with cream or crushed cumin. Serve hot.
