KADALAI PARUPPU CHUTNEY | CHANNA DAL CHUTNEY

Kadalai paruppu chutney is very simple and tasty side dish for idly, dosa or paniyaram. When I was in school, we had small snacks shop near our house and they use to give this paruppu chutney for paniyaram. I love to eat it daily  only for the chutney. It will be delicious and I could come closer to that taste with this paruppu chutney.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Channa dal – 5 tsp
  • Tomato – 1
  • Garlic – 4
  • Red chilli – 5
  • Coconut grated – 2 tsp
  • Asafoetida – pinch
  • Salt – as required
  • Mustard seeds – 1/3 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 6
  • Oil – 1 tsp

METHOD:


1.Heat a tsp of oil in a pan and add channa dal and red chilli. Fry it until changes colour and transfer to mixie jar.

2.Add tomato and garlic to the same pan and saute well until it becomes soft.  Add to the jar to the channa dal.

3.Add asafoetida, coconut and required salt. Grind everything into paste adding little water.

4.Heat oil, add mustard seeds and curry leaves. After they splutter add the chutney and saute for a minute in low flame.

5.Serve with idlies or dosa.
