KARUVEPILLAI KULAMBU | CURRY LEAVES KULAMBU

Karuvepillai kulambu is very healthy curry that can be had with rice, dosa or idly. The curry leaves is very good for hair and well known for its medicinal properties. I had bunch of curry leaves at home so thought of preparing gravy with it. When I searched got this recipe from padhus kitchen,  tried immediately as it is very simple and we enjoyed this tangy kulambu for our lunch.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Curry leaves- 1 cup
  • Onion – 1
  • Tomato – 1
  • Tamarind – small lemon size
  • Chilli powder – 1 /2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1 /4 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 /2 tsp
  • Salt – as required
  • Oil – 1 tsp

METHOD:

1.Wash curry leaves and grind into paste adding required water.

2.Chop onion finely, wash and grind tomato into puree in mixer.

3.Soak tamarind in water and extract the juice.

4.Heat oil in kadai, add mustard and cumin seeds. When they splutter add onion and saute until it becomes translucent.

5.Add curry leaves paste and stir well for a minute until the raw smell goes.

6.Then add tomato puree along with the dry powders. Saute well for a minute until the raw smell of tomato goes.

7.Add tamarind juice and salt. Stir well and cook until the gravy becomes thick and oil separates at top.

8.Serve hot with rice or dosa.
