Black rice paniyaram / kavuni arisi karupatti paniyaram recipe with step-wise pictures. Kavuni arisi paniyaram / Black rice paniyaram is a traditional chettinad snacks recipe made with kavuni arisi and karupatti. Kavuni arisi is a super rich grain that is loaded with antioxidants. The combination of this black rice and karupatti makes the paniyaram healthy and nutritious. I have made sweet paniyaram, you can also make the same as spicy paniyaram adding onion, green chilli and tempering instead of karupatti.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Kavuni arisi / black rice – 1 cup
  • Karupatti / Palm jaggery – 6 tbsp
  • Atta flour – 2 tbsp
  • Health mix / sathu maavu – 3 tbsp (optional)
  • Oil – for frying in appe pan

METHOD:

1. Wash and soak the rice in enough water for about 4 hours. Once done, drain the rice from water and add it to mixer.

2. Add 1/2 cup or required amount of drained water to the rice and grind into smooth batter.

3. Transfer the batter into a mixing bowl and add atta, health mix powder and powered palm jaggery to it.

4. Mix everything together into dosa batter consistency and add little water to adjust the consistency if needed.

5. Heat paniyaram pan adding required oil, once hot pour the batter into all holes and cook in medium flame until golden.

6. Flip to the other side using a spoon and cook for 2-3 minutes until golden on all sides. Remove from pan and repeat for remaining batter.

7. The healthy and tasty kavuni arisi karupatti paniyaram ready. Serve hot.
