OATS VEG CUTLET | OATS TIKKI

Oats veg cutlets are the healthy snack that can be prepared for lunch box or for a party. This is my first try with oats and it became my favourite now. My husband liked it so much and asked me to do it often. I have prepared with potato and carrot. You can add any veggies of your choice.The cutlets can be shallow fried or deep fried.  I prefer shallow frying it in pan/tawa and coated with oats for crunchiness. If you wish you can replace it with bread crumbs.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Potato – 1 big size
  • Carrot – 1 big size
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Onion – 1 medium size
  • Mustard seeds – 1/3 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
  • Wheat flour – 1/2 cup
  • All purpose flour – 2 tsp
  • Corn flour – 2 tsp
  • Salt – as required
  • Oil – to shallow fry

FOR COATING:

  • Corn flour – 2 tsp
  • Instant oats – 1 cup

PREPARATION:

1.Fine chop onion. Pressure cook potato and carrot for 3-4 whistles. After pressure gets released, peel and grate potato and carrot.

2.Dry roast the oats until light brown and keep stirring to avoid burning. Let it cool and spread in a plate. 

3.Mix cornflour with a little water and make a thick paste. 

METHOD:

1.Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard and Cumin seeds. When they pop, add onion and saute well.

2.Add ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell goes.

3.Add the grated veggies and saute well. Then add salt, turmeric, chilli and garam masala powders.

4.Mix well and saute for 2 minutes. Allow it to cool and transfer to a mixing bowl.

5.Add wheat flour, corn flour and all purpose flour to it. Mix everything together to form smooth dough.

6.Now divide the mixture equally, make balls and then flatten it to cutlet shape. You can make into any shapes. Dust little wheat flour at the top.

7.Dip the prepared cutlet into the cornflour mix so that it gets well coated and drop it in oats spread and roll to cover all sides.

8.Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry the cutlets until golden brown on both sides.

9.Serve hot with tomato ketchup or chutney.

NOTE:

  • Rolled oats van be used instead of instant oats.
  • If you wish you can replace all purpose flour with oats powder.
  • Oats powder can be prepared by grinding the roasted oats.
