ONION TOMATO CHUTNEY

I love eating idlies and dosa with chutney than the sambar. We make different varieties of chutneys and this is my favourite among them. I learned it from my amma who is a great cook and tries so many variations. I prepared it as side dish for tomato rava khicidi.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Onion – 1
  • Tomato – 1
  • Chana dal – 1 tsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Coconut (grated) – 2 tsp
  • Roasted gram – 1 tsp (optional)
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Salt – as needed

TO TEMPER:

  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 5

METHOD:

  • Heat oil , roast chana dal and urad dal until it turns colour.
  • Add chopped onion and tomato, saute for a minute.
  • Transfer everything to a mixer, add coconut and roasted gram. Grind everything well to a fine paste.
  • Add salt and tempered items listed under the section “to temper” and mix well.
