PANEER BIRYANI | PANEER PEAS BIRYANI IN PRESSURE COOKER

Paneer biryani is a mildly spiced biryani prepared with paneer and green peas. Paneer is soft and adds to the taste of biryani rice. It is flavorful and completely different version of paneer recipes. This can also be prepared as dum biryani by precooking the basmati rice. I have made it as one pot meal by pressure cooking everything together. This is perfect Sunday meal for kids and everyone in family.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Rice – 2 cups
  • Paneer cubes – 10 to 15
  • Green peas – 1/2 cup
  • Onion – 1
  • Tomato – 2
  • Ginger garlic paste – 2 tsp
  • Green chilli – 2
  • Curd – 2 tsp
  • Mint leaves – 20
  • Salt – as required
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tsp
  • Ghee – 2 tsp

DRY SPICES:

  • Cinnamon – 1 inch
  • Bay leaves – 1
  • Cloves – 2
  • Cardamom – 2
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Pepper seeds – 1/2 tsp

POWDER SPICES:

  • Coriander powder – 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder – 2 tsp

METHOD:

1. Wash and chop onion and tomato. Thaw the paneer to room temperature and wash green peas. Keep everything ready.

2. Heat oil in a cooker, then add dry spices mentioned one by one. Saute for a minute and add onion to it.

3. Saute well until the onion turns brown, then add ginger garlic paste and slitted green chillies.

4. Stir until the raw smell of ginger garlic vanishes. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until it turns mushy.

5. Then add curd, mint leaves and all the powder spices given. Stir well and cook in medium flame for a minute until everything is combined.

6. Add paneer cubes and green peas to the masala and mix well. Cook for 2 minutes as the masala coats the paneer.

7. Now add soaked rice along with 4 cups of water or as required. Add required salt, mix and bring it to boil.

8. Close the lid and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles. Once the pressure seizes, add ghee and Coriander leaves on top.

9. Fluff the rice and serve hot with raita.
