PEPPER KULAMBU

I got this recipe from a cookbook and tried it today as the climate is very cool. Pepper is very good home remedy for cold and this is perfect kulambu to try for this season. This would be more tasty when cooked in earthen vessels.

INGREDIENTS :

  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Chana dal – 2 tsp
  • Pepper – 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli – 3
  • Coconut – 5 small pieces
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 6
  • Tamarind juice – 1/2 cup
  • Salt – as required
  • Tumeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Brinjal – 3

METHOD:


1.Soak tamarind in warm water and extract juice.

2.Dry roast Urad dal, Chana dal, pepper, red chilli and coconut separately.

3.Grind everything into coarse powder.

4.Heat oil in a kadai, add brinjal and cook till it turns colour. Remove from oil.

5.In the same kadai, add mustard and curry leaves and after they splutter add tamarind juice.

6.Add salt, turmeric powder and required water. Check for salt and bring to boil.

7.When the oil floats at the top add brinjal and ground mixture and stir.

8.Cook until it gets thick and add coriander leaves and ghee before serving.

NOTE :

  • Vegetables like drumstick can be added.
  • This kulambu can also be prepared without any vegetable.
