Ragi is the super nutritious millet that is easily available. It is rich in fibre and calcium. We can prepare various tasty dishes with this wonder millet and one among them is this puttu. Ragi would taste extra ordinary when made as puttu and it is a healthy option as we are steaming. This can be made in puttu maker or in idly cooker or by using cooker. I have prepared it with idly cooker. We can serve it in two versions as spicy puttu with kadala curry or sweet puttu with banana and coconut milk. We enjoyed the sweet puttu for breakfast.
- Ragi flour – 1 cup
- Coconut grated – 1 /2 cup
- Sugar – 2 tsp
- Salt – a pinch
- Water – as required
1.Prepare coconut milk by adding grated coconut and sugar to a mixer and give 2-3 spin adding little water.
2.Take ragi flour in a bowl, add salt and sprinkle little water and mix well.
3.Sprinkle little water and mix until you get are able to hold shape and this is the consistency.
4.Heat water in idly cooker and spread the flour in a white cloth placed in idly plate.
5.Steam it for 15 minutes and we will get the aroma of cooked ragi flour and the colour changes slightly.
6.Transfer to a plate, add grated coconut and mix well.
- Jaggery can be added to the puttu and served for variation.
- Coconut milk can be strained to get only the milk. I haven’t strained and had as such with puttu.
