Hurray…Guess what? This is my 101th post and I have successfully published 100 posts keeping cute little naughty devil at home 🙂 :-). A long way to go in this journey and need all your wishes, blessings and support. So here I have a special reason to post a special recipe.
Sakkarai pongal is the traditional sweet that we make for pongal festival. We make it often for many celebrations and festivals. Usually the pongal is prepared in traditional method by cooking rice and moong dal in earthen vessel. This recipe is simple version of sakkarai pongal in cooker and tastes similar to pongal given in temples.
- Rice – 1/2 cup
- Moong dal – 1 /3 cup
- Jaggery – 1 cup
- Water – 3 cups
- Coconut – 1 /2 cup (optional)
- Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
- Cashews – 2 tsp
- Raisins – 2 tsp
- Ghee – 1 tsp
1.Wash rice and dal and pressure cook with water for 3 whistles.
2.Boil jaggery with water until it completely dissolves. Filter to remove impurities.
3.When the pressure seizes, remove the lid and mash rice and dal.
4.Add the jaggery syrup to the rice dal mixture and stir well in low flame.
5.Fry cashews and raisins in ghee and add to the rice mixture along with cardamom powder.
6.Stir well and cook for few minutes until everything blends well.
7.Enjoy the delicious sakkarai pongal.
