Today I was thinking what to do for lunch and the only dish that struck my mind is tomato rice. So tried this pulao with minium spices added. Yet came out to be delicious hot spicy rice. I prepared in ponni rice and it would have additional taste when used basmathi rice.
- Rice – 1 cup
- Onions – 3
- Tomatoes – 5
- Green peas – 1/2 cup
- Garlic – 7 pieces
- Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
- Cinnamon – 1 piece
- Cashews – 8
- Tumeric powder – 1/4 tsp
- Chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander leaves – 2 tsp
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Water – 2 cups
- Ghee – 1 tsp
- Salt – as required
1.Chop onion and tomatoes. Soak rice for 15 minutes and keep aside.
2.Heat oil in cooker, add mustard seeds when they splutter add cinnamon, garlic and cashews.
3.Saute for few minutes and when they turn slight brown add onions till they turn golden brown.
4.Add tomatoes and saute till the raw smell goes and add turmeric, chilli, garam masala powders.
5.When they are combine together and becomes mushy, add rice, green peas and water.
6.Add salt in it and check for correctness. Close the lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
7.When the pressure settles down, open and fluff the rice adding ghee.
8.Garnish with coriander leaves and can be served with raita.
- To be super spicy cloves, cardamom, jeera and bay leaf can be added.
